FAQs
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR THE FINISH?
For a typical home, we’d normally recommend that you use a varnish to create a good seal in rooms like kitchens and bathrooms where you expect some amount of spillage to occur. We’d use a coloured stain to give you the colour you require, with a clear varnish topping to protect the floor. Alternatively, for a room such as a lounge or bedroom where you’re looking for a deeper, richer glow that gets right into the wood, we’d suggest opting for an oil finish.
There are certain small advantages and disadvantages to different finishes that you may like to consider too. An oil finish for instance will enable local repairs to be carried out when patches appear over time, although the oil will need to be re-applied fairly regularly. A wax finish does not require such regular application, but the whole floor will need re-waxing when it starts to wear.
WHAT SORT OF INCONVENIENCE AND MESS MAY I EXPECT?
We use the latest sanding machines to limit dust production and retain practically all of the dust that is generated by them. Our teams will also seal off other rooms as they work and also clean up after themselves. Dust and mess will therefore not be any problem for you.
When we work on floors in commercial properties we can do everything outside of regular office hours, and with schools we usually work during holidays to get the flooring ready for the start of the new term.
